Three Excel requests into three plants' plans

Requests were split across plants by hand, each plant with its own form. Now allocation and form filling happen with one click.

Task

“Three request files, three plants, each with its own plan form. We copy by hand, get lost in rail cars and mixed loads, and formulas break.”

Solution

Request parsing, allocation by plant, splitting rail cars into trucks, mixed loads across days, filling each plant's own form exactly. A one-click desktop app.

Result

43 testscheck the allocation on every run

How it works

Parsing and allocation

The program reads three request files, maps items to the reference list and allocates them by plant with tonnage in mind. A rail car is split into trucks when needed, a mixed load spans several days, dates run consecutively — the rules live in settings, not in the code.

Filling someone else's forms exactly

Each plant receives its own file in its own form: same sheets, same columns, same labels. We also fixed the client's “formulas don't work” problem: some template columns are formulas keyed to the material code, so the paste omits them and the formulas stay alive.

A pilot you can verify

The pilot ships with 43 automated tests that run the allocation on real request sets and catch errors before files go to the plants. Builds are produced for Mac and Windows and start with one click, Python bundled inside.
